The Overcomers of the Last Days
When I posted a topic about the Rapture (or Christ’s return for the saints), I realized that we also need to figure out the future of those “Christians” who will be left behind. (The overcomers.) Why will you be left out—why will Christ abandon you after professing Christianity your entire life?
The answer is that while your church’s friends consider you highly active in your church, your salvation is not measured by your baptism, church activity, or membership.
As already taught by Christ in Matthew 7,
Christ does not guarantee salvation even to your most prayerful church buddy or highly praised, miracle-performing pastor.
The apostle Paul wrote this truth perfectly clear: No Christ’s Spirit in the heart, no salvation. Observe Romans 8:9b-10: “But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness.”
In Matthew 7, Christ said, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.” Those church workers working miracles (in Christ’s story) were “lawless” (or sinners) in His eyes. Why, because their significant church activities were carried out by unsaved (lacking Christ’s Spirit—lacking divine forgiveness) men and women of a Christian church.

You Can Be a Christian in Name Only
What will happen if you are a Christian in name only (CiNO)? The Bible says you won’t be raptured. You will be cast aside during this prophetic biblical event where Christ will meet with His born-again followers in the clouds.

Therefore, you will face the Great Tribulation if you survive after this revelational meeting with our Lord in the air.
If you are a “Matthew 7:23” (unsaved) type of Christian, you better wake up now, since millions of people in hell have been deceived by this wrong presumption. (Don’t be a part of hell’s tearful chant: “I thought I was saved!”)
Remember that of the seven churches mentioned in Revelation (see chapters 2 and 3), Christ has one unchanging message: “He who overcomes.”
Table I
| Church | He Who Overcomes | Promise |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Ephesus | Rev. 2:7 | Eat of the tree of life |
| 2. Smyrna | Rev. 2:11 | Not hurt of second death |
| 3. Pergamum | Rev. 2:17 | Eat manna; White Stone; New Name |
| 4. Thyatira | Rev. 2:26 | Power over the nations. Morning Star |
| 5. Sardis | Rev. 3:5 | White Raiment; Confess His name |
| 6. Philadelphia | Rev. 3:12 | Pillar in Temple; New Name |
| 7. Laodicea | Rev. 3:21 | Sit with Me on My Throne |
Arthur E. Bloomfield once said, “The final promise of eternal reward is given only to those individuals in the church who are overcomers.”
In these last days, mainstream Christian churches march with one voice towards Laodiceanism, or love for the church, instead of love for Christ. While the Pentecostal denominations, for example, seem lost in the neighborhood of seeking for “signs and wonders” and performative praises toward God in public, the Baptist and similar denominational groupings wasted so much time with their doctrinal precision instead of simply worshipping and loving Christ.
We need to “overcome” this church-backed deception as a member. I have a personal experience with a guest pastor who was obviously unsaved and spouting false teaching to encourage the members to contribute beyond what is biblical. With no pretense of authority to stop the heresy, I walked out only to find the head of the deacons exiting the hall ahead of me. That is prevailing over the Laodicean tendencies of the church (to love herself more than Christ and His truth).
What Will Happen If You Question the Church?
I experienced it. I didn’t support “hyper-Calvinism,” aka “predestinarianism.” Somehow, for two Sundays, I noticed the guest pastor (during the first Sunday) saying that prayer is not needed because God is immutable. The following Sunday, our very own pastor said that “faith” is not needed at all. I posted my disagreement on Facebook and commented on the pastor’s FB post, too. Both my family and pastor censored me. That’s unvarnished Laodiceanism, where the church’s heresy and unity have to be protected at all costs.
Most nominal Christians don’t know their Bibles as they should (cf. 2 Tim. 2:15). Deuteronomy 11:18 states, “Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul (KJV).” How things stand in a mainstream Christian church resembles an unthinking assembly of sheep where a doctrinal question is silenced or charged as a disruption.
Concerning the Laodicean bent of all so-called Christian churches (to protect the pastor and the brethren) in these end times, Arthur E. Bloomfield (author of the book “The Key to Understanding Revelation”) wrote:
“Conditions in some of the seminaries are almost unbelievable. A young minister told me that in a school in the Midwest, the future preachers sat around between classes, smoking, playing cards, and telling dirty stories. A preacher told me that in the seminary which he attended, the Bible had about as much standing as the Saturday Evening Post—just a piece of literature. Yet if you raise your voice in the church against these conditions, you are a troublemaker.
“All the prophets were troublemakers. ‘And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.’—I Kings 18:17, 18.
“Jesus was a troublemaker. He made trouble in the synagogues and in the temple.
“The apostles were troublemakers. They were men who turned the world upside down. Martin Luther was a troublemaker. The Romish church could tolerate all the evils that Luther pointed out, but they could not tolerate Luther. John Wesley was a troublemaker in the Church of England. The church today needs troublemakers as never before, but the churches have so constituted themselves that they can rid themselves of their critics, but not of the evils which cause the criticism. That is why the effective life of a church is comparatively short, and new ones have to be continually starting.
“The crying need of the church through the ages has been machinery for cleansing itself. These seven letters to the churches are that machinery, but the churches will not even consider them. These seven letters show why there has to be a succession of churches.” (pp. 60-61)
Aren’t You Sure of Your Salvation?
If you’re unsure of your salvation, it is because you don’t trust in Christ’s words. In John 3:16, Christ said, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him [Christ] shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
One soul-winner experimented with John 3:16. He asked his prospect about the Bible. “I believe it,” was the reply. After reading John 3:16, he asked, Since you believe in Scripture, are you now saved?
The prospect was defiant. He felt trapped by being made to answer yes at the start of the conversation if he trusted the Scriptures.
Most people have the same rejection of John 3:16 after proclaiming faith in the Holy Bible.
Why is it? Well, people disbelieve in John 3:16 because it is a call to believe and trust in Jesus.
Talk about Muhammad, Allah, and Buddha (include all the known gods and goddesses on earth), and no one will be offended until you mention the name of Jesus.
Your uncertainty of Christ’s eternal forgiveness and salvation is always connected with your animosity and rejection of Christ, who is the Truth.
The apostle John said, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13)
You have assurance of salvation naturally if you are born again, because that knowledge of salvation was given to you. For it, Paul said that “Christ liveth in me.”
I once had a caretaker in one of my properties who told me, “Sir, our church told us there’s no such thing as assurance of salvation, but in my heart, I know I will wake up in heaven one day.”
That is the assurance of eternal life in a nutshell. In short, if you’re unsure of heaven, you’re telling the truth, and I believe you. You’ll be left behind during the Rapture.
Then What?
Your second chance at salvation will occur after the Rapture. The sudden disappearance of your church buddies (and all the born-again Christians you knew) will stir you to trust in Christ’s blood sincerely. The AntiChrist will kill you because of your genuine faith in our Lord. During Christ’s Second Coming, accompanied by the raptured church, you will be resurrected and become a Tribulation saint.
In Revelation 20:4, John said,
How Will the Tribulation Saints Suffer
Bloomfield wrote:
Note that the salvation of the Tribulation saints is not based on what they do, since John said that “I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God” (Rev. 20:4)
Defiance toward the AntiChrist is a result of genuine faith in Christ and not a kind of self-righteousness or rebellion against 666. Revelation 7:14 says that they have “washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” Salvation has always been by grace through faith. Ephesians 2:8–9 declares, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works.” The Tribulation saints will not earn God’s acceptance by enduring persecution. Rather, because they belong to Christ, they will be empowered to endure.
It will be the journey of the overcomers in the end times. They will choose persecution and death for their sincere faith in Christ, our Savior and Lord.
What’s Your Resolve?
Salvation is not external religious activity or church attendance. If you have the Spirit of Christ, you belong to Him and you’ll be raptured. If you’re unregenerated (not born again!) by the miracle of faith, you’ll experience your prayers only reaching the roof of your house. You can feel how detached you are from the living God of heaven and the resurrected Son of God, Jesus our Lord. In your emergencies, you’ll cry “mama,” instead of “Lord Jesus help me,” from the depth of your heart. You won’t pray to Jesus subconsciously because He does not know you. “I never knew.” You won’t remember Him, since you don’t love Him. You don’t treasure the truth that He died for your sins and separation from our heavenly Father.
The warnings from Scripture and the example of the seven churches remind us that overcoming spiritual complacency and loving Christ above all is essential. If you find yourself uncertain about your salvation, take this as a moment of awakening and seek the truth in Christ with sincerity and openness.
Today is the day to examine your faith deeply and ask God to reveal His Spirit in your life. Don’t wait for the Rapture to realize the truth too late. Commit to studying Scripture, praying earnestly, and living in a genuine relationship with Jesus.
Let us prepare our hearts for Christ’s glorious return! Amen.
