When Christ’s Peace Rules: The Foundation for Restoring Order

This world is chaotic, not because of God who created it, but because of us, His creatures. What happened, really? The wife became unfaithful, and the husband became a bully. Or the children who thought they had entitlements and license to do stuff without a grasp of right and wrong! Why are we all living in constant suspicion and fear? The answer is that we don’t have an inner authority for troubled times. We don’t have Christ’s peace.

VERSES from the BIBLE for STRENGTH

This material is the only book besides the Bible you can turn to in sad times. It does not promise super exegesis or a scholarly hermeneutics of Scripture, but a layman’s commentary that is powerful when used by the Holy Spirit. Scripture is full of wisdom no one single Bible scholar can fully grasp. Even John MacArthur, who studied the Gospel of Luke alone for 10 years, has fallen into the heresy of hyper-Calvinism by preaching predestination online. This simply tarnishes the reputation of John MacArthur’s renowned biblical scholarship.

The apostle Peter was an “ignorant Galilean,” but through the Holy Spirit, he wrote a part of the New Testament with divine authority. The Holy Spirit wrote the Holy Bible (through His guidance and enlightenment). Through Him, we can understand its verses with clarity and presence. One aspect of this book emphasizes that Jesus is present in our “storms,” similar to when He was asleep while the raging waves smashed the disciples’ boat. We are not alone in our calamities. Our Lord is with us. We are His temple. Therefore, be strong in the Lord.

The book is available in multiple formats (PDF, EPUB, and audiobook) at a special “bundled” price in one go. See the details.

Understanding Inner Authority Through Christ’s Peace

The apostle Paul said, “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” (Col. 3:15) It is what we call “inner authority” or the peace of Christ that rules in our hearts.

When government officials, popes, priests, pastors, regular worshipers, fathers, mothers, and all those who hold leadership roles are corrupt, we have trouble. We always face significant challenges in life because the entire societal system is flawed. When we don’t have a clean and upright inner authority, which is the rule of Christ’s peace in our hearts, our societal compass is broken, and our chaotic humanity will never experience relief.

What is Christ’s Peace?

In my younger years I used to hear a priest saying, “Peace be with you.” Yeah, peace is “just what the doctor ordered.” However, Christ’s offer of “peace” is fundamentally different.

It was not a hit-or-miss “Peace be with you,” which was a combination of blessing or invocation of divine favor, spiritual connection, and salutation (during Mass).

In Christ, peace is marked as being possessed by Him. He owns it. It is a version of peace that is trademarked as divine, caused and shaped perfectly by no less than the Son of God Himself.

In John 14:27, our Lord plainly declares, “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

Can Christ’s Peace Truly Rule the World?

Yes, during and after the Millennium (or Christ’s 1000-year reign on earth). In Luke 1, Angel Gabriel declared, “He [Christ] will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.” (Verses 32-33.) Without question, Christ’s peace will rule the earth during His reign.

The Challenge of Experiencing Divine Peace in Today’s World

Today, Christ’s peace cannot dominate globally because of His adversary, the devil. A million “Trumps,” for example, cannot provide a global and perfect peace version that only belongs to Christ.

The upcoming global twist is that Satan will claim to have a peace formula through the antiChrist. Jeremiah states, “They heal the brokenness of the daughter of My people superficially, Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ But there is no peace.” (Jer. 8:11)

Most Christian writers focus on the devil’s deception of Israel by pretending to be the Messiah, where peace is promised. As noted by the apostle Paul, “While they are saying, ‘Peace and safety!’ then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape.” (1 Thess. 5:3) (It is for another blog.)

Peace is not possible on a global scale until Christ’s Second Coming.

Christ’s Peace Dwelling in the Hearts of Born-Again Believers

Is Christ’s peace possible today? The answer is yes, in the hearts of born-again believers. Paul states, “And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.” This means you “LET CHRIST’S PEACE RULE” in your life.

In my early Christianity, I met a book titled “The Angry Christian.” For that reason, I wrote an entire chapter in my book “Christian Teachings Revisited” about the Christian sense of stability.

When the word of God says, “Let’s do this…,” it is positional, like “positional sanctification” (made holy) discussed in Hebrews 12:14. It says, “Pursue peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no one will see the Lord.”

That is to say we need to “pursue” or “let the peace of Christ rule” (Col 3:15) in our hearts.

The other encouragement by Paul using the word “let” (or “allow” or “give permission”) is given in the following verse (v. 16) to “Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you.”

The idea is the same: to allow Christ’s peace to possess you as a real believer by believing and asking for it.

I remember studying for one week on a sermon that seemed quite scholarly. After the church service, my wife expressed her dissatisfaction with my preaching, followed by a pointed remark: “What kind of sermon was that?”

Since then, I have made a vow to myself never to climb the pulpit without hours, if not days, of persistent asking from Christ for His Spirit’s fullness in my entire being.

Christ’s peace, for it to work, is simply Christ’s fullness.

True peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of Christ ruling in our hearts. When His peace governs us, fear and chaos lose their power, and we find strength to live with hope, courage, and love in a troubled world.

Embracing and Extending Christ’s Peace: A Call to Action

In conclusion, the peace that Christ offers is not merely a temporary or superficial calm but a deep, abiding presence that can rule in the hearts of believers despite the chaos in the world. This peace transcends circumstances and challenges, providing a foundation for true reconciliation and harmony within individuals and communities.

As we embrace the peace of Christ, we are called to be agents of that peace in a troubled world. By allowing His peace to govern our hearts and actions, we can overcome fear, suspicion, and division, reflecting His kingdom here on earth. Ultimately, this peace points us toward the hope of Christ’s eternal reign, where justice and peace will prevail forever.

    About Jun P. Espina

Jun P. Espina loves nature, music, painting, and poetry, but couldn’t find inner joy during his first 27 years of life. After his father’s death, he taught in college and met religious friends who couldn’t satisfy his search for meaning. In 1984, he was converted to the biblical Christian faith. He married his girlfriend, Virgie, the following year—God blessed them with three children—and served Christ as a believer in different spaces of the Christian ministry. After over 30 years of orthodox Christianity, he wrote a few Christian eBooks in his home in Davao City. Sometimes his four little grandchildren played with their smartphones by his side.
