RECONCILIATION: WHAT ALL WORLDLY RELIGIONS CANNOT UNDERSTAND

What is the top Christian teaching that can shut up non-Christian religious apologists, including those from Islam, Hinduism, Seventh-day Adventism, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Catholicism, and other faiths? It is found in Romans 3:23. The apostle Paul says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” “All have sinned” before God.

Why is it important? Why does it silence all deniers of the Christian faith?

Muslims, for example, are confident that their bowing to Allah five times a day is an outstanding religious dogma. They think they are superior and that their Allah loves their submission.

However, such devotion does not gain peace with God. It is as meaningless as kneeling before the image of the Virgin Mary.

“We are all sinners before God,” according to the Apostle Paul. Everything we do for our Creator—I mean, everything, including prayer and worship—is a waste of time.

Proverbs 15 states, “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord.” (Verse 8a)

Our sinful hearts have disqualified us from gaining access to our Holy Father God.

Shouting “Allahu Akbar” during emergencies is one example of separation from God. You don’t shout “Give me a bowl of rice” to your father during dinner. There has to be a bomb explosion or something tragic every time you hear “Allahu Akbar” chanted by a Muslim.

In chapter 59, the Prophet Isaiah says, “But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.” (Verse 2)

Simply put, we must reconcile with God first, because our sins have blocked us from open communication with our Creator. Remember that sin caused the eviction of Adam and Eve from Paradise.

HOW DO WE RECONCILE WITH GOD?

You can pray 10,000 times to your god, whatever his name may be, or say the Rosary the entire month, but it is worthless, like squeezing blood out of turnips.

Chant Allah’s favorite “praise” (“Allahu…” etc.) at full volume, yet our holy God of the Scriptures will neither hear nor care because He is “of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity.” (Hab. 1:13, KJV)

Of Man-Made Reconciliation Teaching

Settle your sins with God first. It is the doctrine. It’s like offending your father-in-law. You must do something to achieve appeasement. You must take the initiative so you can take your wife back.

We are all sinners and enemies of God. So be morally spotless and attend church.

But how do non-Christian (worldly) religions approach God specifically, given this inborn consciousness of being unholy and unworthy of God’s presence because of our sinful hearts? (cf. Jer. 17:9)

For Muslims, submission (praying five times) is their absolute condition to be heard by their Allah. Catholics also believe self-sacrifice (saying the Rosary, confession, communion, etc.) to be pleasing and acceptable to God.

The Seventh-day Adventists preach Sabbath worship and avoidance of pork to earn the smile of our heavenly Father.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe they need to follow their teachings, such as the rejection of Christ’s deity, to have the assurance of their version of “truth” and thus become good enough for the “Kingdom of God.”

In theology, we used to call all these varying dogmas “doing good works” in any form, such as doing penance, church membership, submission to water baptism, giving your offerings, etc., to please our Creator and somehow get His attention.

Of God’s Reconciliation Teaching

God’s version of our reconciliation is different. In Romans 5:8, Paul said, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

What does this Scripture say? “God demonstrates His own love toward us.” It’s also the biblical teaching. God took the first step to resolve our sin issues against Him because of His divine love.

It is God Himself who has initiated our reconciliation with Him. As Christ puts it: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Worldly churches have preached secular moralism, perfectionism, or works-based salvation as a pathway toward God. Just give your offerings to the church and do good.

A casual friend once said, “I’ll go to heaven because God is merciful. I’ll just be righteous…”

But Holy Scripture has invalidated them all. “For God sent His Son…”

HOW DID THE APOSTLE PAUL PEN GOD’S RECONCILIATION TEACHING?

After declaring God’s love as the foundation of our reconciliation with Him, Paul said,

“For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” (Rom. 5:10) (Note: “by His life” has an alternate translation in NASB1995, which is “in His life.”)

Yes, unmistakable indeed. We were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Forget about dogmas or secular religious precepts. We are reconciled with God and thus eligible to live in heaven through Christ, who died for our sins and rose again to affirm His deity and all His promises of eternal life by faith in His atoning blood. (cf. 1 Cor. 15:1-4)

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO US AFTER THIS LIFE IF WE ARE BORN-AGAIN FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST?

First, those who have encountered the second birth by faith in our Savior Jesus will experience His Spirit’s presence in this life and the hereafter. It is biblical reconciliation, where God the Son lives in us as His temple. (cf. Rom. 8:9; 2 Cor. 6:16) The enmity between me and my Creator has been overlooked and forgotten in Heaven. (cf. Heb. 10:17) This relationship with God is summed up in one thing: “complete forgiveness” because of Christ’s death on the cross for the “forgiveness of sins.” (Matt. 26:28)

For this reason, the apostle Paul states, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (2 Cor. 5:17)

WHY DO PEOPLE, IN GENERAL, HATE CHRIST AND HIS FOLLOWERS?

The short answer is in John 15:25: “They hated Me [Christ] without a cause.”

(That’s why Bible blogging is highly unpopular.)

The long answer is people’s hatred of God’s truth because of Satan’s deceptions. (2 Thess. 2:10b–12; 2 Tim. 3:13)

The apostle Paul said that without love for the truth, God will cause truth-deniers to become more deceived. Observe the liberals in the Western world, where truth is traded for political correctness and genderism. God sent Islam to London, since Christ is no longer their “first love.”

The Islamization of Europe will be quick because Christianity has already lost its grip on their societies. It’s like saying, “God, we hate Christianity.” Then God responded, “Here’s Islam. It is what you want, because you hate the truth, who is Christ.”

The Apostle Paul well stated this reality: “For this reason [no love for the truth] God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false.” (2 Thess. 2:11)

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO CHRIST’S ETERNALLY FORGIVEN FOLLOWERS?

In contrast to the blindness of Christ-rejecters, His followers have scripturally accepted realities that are bigger than life itself, most of the time causing Christian martyrs to continue believing in our Lord despite the real dangers of untimely death.

As affirmed by Paul,

“But just as it is written, ‘Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.’” (1 Cor. 2:9)

What think ye of Christ? (Matt. 22:42, KJV)

    About Jun P. Espina

Jun P. Espina loves nature, music, painting, and poetry, but couldn’t find inner joy during his first 27 years of life. After his father’s death, he taught in college and met religious friends who couldn’t satisfy his search for meaning. In 1984, he was converted to the biblical Christian faith. He married his girlfriend, Virgie, the following year—God blessed them with three children—and served Christ as a believer in different spaces of the Christian ministry. After over 30 years of orthodox Christianity, he wrote a few Christian eBooks in his home in Davao City. Sometimes his four little grandchildren played with their smartphones by his side.
